Euro Manganese CEO Matt James said last week that the demand for manganese will increase as electric vehicles gain a larger market share. The demand for high-purity manganese has to increase tenfold by 2030.
Euro Manganese is now moving forward with its 100%-owned Chvaletice project in Czech, an old tailing of a decommissioned mine. The company planned to produce high-purity manganese from the tailing, and the manganese will be applied in lithium-ion batteries and other high-technology applications.
Matt James said that manganese is very similar to cobalt. It stabilizes the nickel and can be a substitute for cobalt. Compared to other battery metals, manganese is more competitive in price. It was expected to play a more and more important role in the future.
