According to statistics from Brazil’s National Union of the Industry of Extraction of Iron and Base Metals (Sinferbase), Vale S.A. (Vale), a Brazilian multinational corporation engaged in metals and mining, exported around 18.5 million tons of iron ore in May this year, rising by 10.2% compared to the previous month while dropping by 17% from the same month a year ago.
In the first five months of this year, the exports amounted to approximately 81 million tons, a year-on-year reduction of 20.4%.
In terms of sales, in May, Vale’s domestic iron ore sales volume was down by 1% month on month and up by 89% year on year to 2.1 million tons. The domestic sales in the January-May period reached approximately 9.5 million tons, a year-on-year growth of 36.4%.
