A US$947,035 grant has been awarded to Calix Limited by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency to evaluate the feasibility of low-emissions methods for reducing iron.

In order to scope a demonstration-scale Hydrogen Direct Reduced Iron (HDRI) plant using Calix's proprietary Zero Emissions Steel Technology (ZESTY), the company will spend US$1.96 million on preliminary engineering and design (pre-FEED) and front-end engineering and design (FEED).

Australia is the largest supplier of iron ore in the world, so it can lead the world in reducing emissions from the steel value chain. More than 7% of the world's CO2 emissions are contributed by the steel industry, and Australia is well positioned to lead the industry.
