The UK approved building a deep coal mine, which is the first time in the past 30 years. However, it might get opposition from environmentalists. In their opinion, it is a regressive step in the way of achieving a climate goal.

UK’s Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) made an announcement on December 7 that the Woodhouse Colliery coal mine project in Whitehaven can proceed.

West Cumbria Mining, the operator of this project, planned to sell coal from the mine to foreign steel producers. The company added that around 500 direct jobs would be created by the project.
