In the first four months of 2023, Ukraine’s crude steel output decreased by 46% year on year to about 1.81 million tons. At the same time, Zaporizhstal, Ukraine’s fourth-largest steel mill and belongs to the Metinvest group, produced around 647,000 tons of steel, decreasing by 10.3% year on year.

After the Russia-Ukraine war started last February, Ukraine’s logistics were interrupted, and Ukraine’s steel production and sales dropped greatly. The operation of Ukrainian two leading steel mills, Azovstal and Ilyich Iron and Steel Works, was also stopped.

In April, Ukraine’s steel production totaled 574,000 tons, slightly increasing by 8.9% from the previous month. Meanwhile, the pig iron output in April increased by 16.7% month on month to about 544,000 tons.
