According to statistics from the World Steel Association (worldsteel), global crude steel production totaled 161.6 million tons in May, slightly falling by 0.2% compared to the previous month and also down by 5% from the year-ago level.
Among them, Asia's crude steel production reached nearly 120 million tons, down by 6% year on year, of which China's output accounted for 90 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 7.3%. The crude steel production from 27 EU countries was 11.6 million tons, sliding by 11.2% year on year.
Meanwhile, North American crude steel output was 9.6 million tons, down by 3.7% year on year; South American output was 3.6 million tons, falling by 5.2% year on year.
Crude steel production in Africa was up by 18.6% year on year to 1.3 million tons, and the output in the Middle East grew by 4.3% year on year to 4.4 million tons.
In the first five months of this year, global crude steel production amounted to 786 million tons, a year-on-year drop of 1.2%.
