According to statistics from the German Steel Federation (WV Stahl), Germany's crude steel production totaled around 2.7 million tons in November this year, falling by 2.4% compared to the same month a year ago.
During the period, Germany produced around 1.8 million tons of pig iron, a year-on-year drop of 5%. Hot-rolled steel production was up by 1.7% year on year to 2.3 million tons.
In the first 11 months of this year, Germany's crude steel production amounted to approximately 32.8 million tons, down by 4% year on year. Pig iron output slid by 0.8% year on year to 21.7 million tons, and hot-rolled steel output fell by 4.3% year on year to 28.4 million tons.
Kerstin Maria Rippel, CEO of WV Stahl, said that the continued high power price and the weak economy have resulted in a drop in steel production, especially for electric arc furnace manufacturing steel. Germany now needs an urgent solution for competitive electricity prices.
