The US' Nucor Corporation inked a deal with Mercedes-Benz, supplying Econiq™-RE for Mercedes-Benz models crafted at their Tuscaloosa, AL plant. Econiq™-RE has been pioneering low-embodied carbon materials since 2022 and spearheading global steel industry certification. Econiq™-RE can slash greenhouse gas emissions to less than half of traditional blast furnace-based production.

Dan Needham, EVP of Commercial, emphasized Nucor's commitment to reducing carbon emissions across supply chains. In 2023, Nucor announced the Net-Zero science-based greenhouse gas (GHG) targets for 2050 and used an average of nearly 80% recycled scrap. As the largest recycler in the Western Hemisphere, Nucor aims to reshape the industry sustainably while aiding partners in achieving carbon reduction objectives.
