According to statistics from the World Steel Association (worldsteel), global crude steel production totaled 144.8 million tons in August, falling by 6.5% compared to the same month a year ago.
Among them, Asia's crude steel production reached 107 million tons, dropping by 8% year on year, of which China's output accounted for around 78 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 10.4%. The crude steel production from 27 EU countries was 9 million tons, hiking by 2.2% year on year. The CIS countries produced 7 million tons, down by 8.7% year on year.
During the period, North American crude steel output was roughly 9 million tons, sliding by 4% year on year; South American output was 3.6 million tons, going up by 0.8% year on year.
Crude steel production in Africa was down by 7% year on year to nearly 2 million tons, and the output in the Middle East fell by 3.2% year on year to 3.4 million tons.
In the first eight months of this year, global crude steel production amounted to 1.25 billion tons, dropping by 1.5% compared to the prior-year period.
