Turkey imports fewer HRC in Jan-Aug period

According to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), Turkey's hot-rolled coil (HRC) imports reached around 2.44 million tons in the first eight months of this year, falling by nearly 20% compared to the year-ago period. The import value dropped by 24% year on year to US$1.6 billion.

Among them, the supply from China accounted for the largest share, totaling roughly 1.24 million tons, up by 7.6% year on year. Egypt ranked second with 408,000 tons, a year-on-year surge of 122%, followed by Russia’s 220,400 tons.

In August alone, Turkey imported around 245,000 tons of HRC, rising by 57% month on month but dropping by 23% year on year. The value generated by these imports was US$154 million, hiking by 33% from the preceding month while sliding by 29% year on year.
