Recently, Chinese steel mills have been subject to dumping investigations by other countries, including Taiwan.
According to domestic coil centers, Taiwanese buyers have become more conservative after China Steel Corp. (CSC) launched an anti-dumping investigation into China's hot-rolled coils (HRC). Therefore, market participants believed that Japanese and South Korean HRCs are more competitive. Indonesian mills have also begun to strive for inquiries from the Taiwan market.
However, traders emphasized that the quality of HRC from Indonesian mills is no problem, coil centers lack experience in using it and are waiting to see.
In addition, there was still news of low-priced Chinese HRC transactions in the market recently. Local distributors said that some peers still keep a lucky mentality when purchasing.
