According to China Customs, China imported around 158,000 tons of stainless steel in October, up by 32.1% month on month but down by 44.3% year on year. Exports reached around 417,000 tons, a month-on-month drop of 9% and a year-on-year increase of 24%.

In the first ten months of this year, China’s stainless steel imports amounted to approximately 1.6 million tons, a year-on-year decline of 3.9%, while exports totaled 4.1 million tons, a 20.2% increase from the same period a year ago.

In October, China’s stainless steel scrap imports were roughly 8,600 tons, a 67.3% monthly surge but a 77.1% annual drop. From January to October this year, China’s stainless steel scrap imports totaled nearly 81,000 tons, plummeting by 71% year on year.
