The reporter learned from the Guilin City Lighting Management Office that there are 45,000 street lamps of various types on about 230 municipal roads in the city, of which more than 30,000 are high pole street lamps with poles over 6 meters.

"The energy-saving renovation project of street lamps in the old city is mainly to replace 19,500 of these high pole street lamps, involving 148 sections of the old city." Relevant staff of the Guilin City Lighting Management Office told reporters that before the renovation, the light sources of high pole street lamps in the old city included both energy-consuming gas discharge lamps (sodium lamps, xenon lamps) and LED lamps used more than 10 years ago. As the years of use of these LED lamps increase, the light sources gradually show light decay, and the lighting effect gradually fails to meet the relevant national standards.

In order to improve the night travel environment for residents and tourists, the Guilin City Urban Management Committee organized its subordinate unit, the City Lighting Management Office, to adopt the contract energy management model (EMC) to implement the energy-saving renovation of street lamps in an orderly manner in key areas and districts. The project started construction on July 18 this year and has been basically completed and entered the trial operation stage.

"We replaced the sodium lamps and LED lamps that have been used for many years on these 148 road sections with new LED lamps that are more energy-saving, environmentally friendly, green and low-carbon." said the person in charge.

According to reports, the light source of electric lamps has gone through many generations of development. More than 20 years ago, gas discharge lamps were the mainstream product of street light light sources. Compared with earlier incandescent lamps, it has better lighting effects, high brightness and high efficiency. The LED light source that appeared later has better lighting effects under the same power consumption. "We have gradually renovated and updated the LED street lights on the municipal roads under our jurisdiction since 2011. After this renovation project, the original gas discharge lamps on the municipal roads in the old city have all been replaced with LED street lights. After the completion of the project, the lighting brightness of the road will be greatly improved, which will escort citizens' night travel. At the same time, it also reduces the carbon emissions of urban lighting and saves energy and reduces emissions."
