Worldsteel: Global crude steel production slides in May y-o-y

According to statistics from the World Steel Association (worldsteel), global crude steel production totaled roughly 159 million tons in May, falling by 3.8% compared to the same month a year ago.

Among them, Asia's crude steel production reached about 117 million tons, sliding by 4.7% year on year, of which China's output accounted for 87 million tons, falling by 7% year on year. The crude steel production from 27 EU countries was around 11 million tons, falling by 3% year on year. The CIS countries produced 7 million tons, down by 8% year on year.

During the period, North American crude steel output was roughly 9.5 million tons, going up by 3.4% year on year; South American output was 3.4 million tons, growing by 4.2% year on year. Crude steel production in Africa went up by 5.5% year on year to nearly 2 million tons, and the output in the Middle East rose by 5.3% year on year to 5.4 million tons.

In the first five months of this year, global crude steel output amounted to roughly 784 million tons, a year-on-year reduction of 1.3%.
