The Brazilian Foreign Trade Secretariat (SECEX) indicated that importers have utilized coated steel quotas of 79% to 293,200 tons as of October 8.
The import volume of coated steel was approximately 21,000 tons from October 1 to October 8, which is 5,000 tons higher than the June-October weekly average.
The steel quota system is renewed every four months. In Brazil, 19 types of steel products are subject to this quota policy. The import tariff will increase from 10% to 25% after the quota is exhausted.
The quotas for galvanized steel and galvalume steel products are almost reached because importers are rapidly supplying the domestic market to satisfy the consistent demand from the construction sector.
