Century Aluminum expects to resume operations at its Grundartangi smelter in Iceland by the end of April, six months ahead of its initial timeline.

An electrical equipment failure in October last year forced the 320,000-ton facility to cut production by two-thirds. New transformers face delays until the fourth quarter due to high data center demand, while CEO Jesse Gary confirmed that repairing existing units will allow Line 2 to return to near-full capacity by this April.

The outage caused a 14% decrease in fourth-quarter shipments. However, the company expects a slight 2.6% annual decline for 2026. This recovery relies on the Iceland restart and a 50,000-ton production increase at the Mt. Holly project in South Carolina, also scheduled for April.
