PrometalBakli sets market record with largest ever order for certified low-carbon stainless steel
Greek stainless steel and tinplate service centre PrometalBakli has made history by placing the largest ever single order for certified low-carbon stainless steel, committing to 3,500 tonnes of Outokumpu's Circle Green product.
Circle Green stands apart from conventional stainless steel through its sub-one-tonne CO₂ emissions per tonne of steel produced, made possible by combining high recycled content, carefully chosen low-emission alloying elements, and exclusively low-carbon electricity throughout key stages of production. The result is a product that cuts carbon emissions by as much as 93% compared to the global industry average, yet delivers identical corrosion resistance and mechanical performance to traditionally manufactured stainless steel.
Beyond this initial order, the two companies have agreed on a long-term supply partnership under which Circle Green will make up over a third of PrometalBakli's annual stainless steel volume by 2026, with all subsequent Outokumpu purchases to be Circle Green exclusively.
Recognising that certified low-carbon stainless steel has yet to gain widespread traction in its core markets, PrometalBakli is getting ahead of the curve, targeting elevator manufacturers, industrial equipment producers, and export-focused customers who are expected to drive future demand.
