Romanian metal products manufacturer Lio-Metal is transitioning its entire product line from conventional galvanized steel to ArcelorMittal’s Magnelis® coated steel. This strategic move establishes Lio-Metal as a primary distributor of the specialized zinc-aluminum-magnesium alloy in Romania, targeting sectors such as solar energy, road infrastructure, and agriculture.

Magnelis® contains 3.5% aluminum and 3% magnesium to create a protective barrier that "self-heals" on cut or abraded steel edges. Compared to traditional coatings, it provides double the corrosion resistance while using nearly half the amount of zinc.

Tested to last between 15 and 50 years in aggressive environments, the material helps clients lower maintenance costs and improve product durability.

Lio-Metal plans to phase out conventional galvanized steel entirely over the next few years. This 2026 objective meets its goal to improve production efficiency and support global decarbonization through more sustainable material choices.
