According to data from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), US domestic raw steel production reached 1.87 million net tons for the week ending May 23, 2026, operating at a capability utilization rate of 81.0%. This volume represented an 8.7% increase compared to the 1.72 million net tons recorded during the identical timeframe in 2025. However, weekly output dropped by 1.5% from the preceding week ending May 16, which had 1.898 million net tons and an 82.2% utilization rate.

Adjusted year-to-date production through May 23 totaled 37.053 million net tons, maintaining a 78.5% capacity utilization rate. This total output reflected a 6.7% increase over the 34.741 million net tons manufactured during the corresponding period last year.
