France-based Fives Group has signed a major contract with JSW Steel's Vijayanagar Works to support a new electrical steel project at the Vijayanagar Works facility in Toranagallu, Karnataka, India.

The project will involve the design and construction of three processing lines for non-grain-oriented (NGO) electrical steel used in electric vehicles and electric motors.

The planned facilities include one annealing and pickling line with an annual capacity of 600,000 metric tonnes, along with two annealing and coating lines, each capable of producing 270,000 metric tonnes per year.

The contract was awarded through a consortium involving the Belgian engineering company John Cockerill. Under the agreement, Fives will design and supply annealing furnaces for all three processing lines. The company said its technology will help ensure the temperature control, strip quality, and metallurgical properties required for high-performance NGO grades.
