Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev launched a US$839 million casting and rolling complex at the Uzmetkombinat steelworks.
This facility introduces the country’s first production of hot-rolled sheet steel, projecting an annual output of 1 million tons valued at 8 trillion soums. The expansion generates 1,200 new jobs and meets the steel demands of Tashkent and Samarkand.
To secure a transition to its 1.5-billion-ton domestic iron ore reserves, the company plans to build a US$180 million metallurgical plant and expand mining at the Tebinbulak and Surun-ota deposits.
In addition, other investments include US$30 million to double steel ball capacity and US$70 million to establish an eco-industrial park, adding 660 jobs through six industrial projects.
