Turkish hot-rolled steel exporters will see no immediate change in their access to the EU market following the latest court decision on the bloc’s trade measures.

The European Court of Justice rejected appeals from Çolakoğlu Metalurji and Erdemir Group, keeping the anti-dumping (AD) framework introduced in 2021 intact. Duties on covered Turkish hot-rolled products currently range from 5% to 7.3%, depending on the supplier.

The ruling provides greater clarity for European importers by maintaining the existing tariff structure, while Turkish mills continue to compete under the same additional cost burden. 

Attention is now shifting to the longer term status of the measures, with EUROFER having requested a sunset review in July.

The review will separately assess whether protection against Turkish HRC imports remains necessary, leaving the current duties unaffected while that process moves forward.
