Before the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine war, approximately three-thirds of Czech iron ore raw materials depend on sources from Ukraine, and the rest are sourced from Russia. Therefore, Czech smelters were forced to find new sources of iron ore after the war.
Daniel Urban, chairman of the Czech Steel Union, said that China accounts for half of global steel production and consumption, so iron ore prices depend upon Chinese demand.
The Czech steel industry has begun to plan to purchase iron ore at higher prices from third countries, making adjustments to production and supply as early as possible, in order to face the unstable situation.
