Containers full of frozen food and chemicals piled up in Shanghai, the largest port in China. The piling up was due to the city's lockdown to prevent Covid-19, and the government has banned truck drivers from picking up cargoes at the docks.

Freight forwarders pointed out that although the port is opening, the high volume of refrigerated containers and dangerous goods piled up in ports means that ships carrying such goods may not be able to unload more containers in ports. Ships are lining up outside and causing more delays and higher freight rates in the coming months.

The closure of warehouses and lack of truck drivers also affected Zhejiang and Jiangsu, two major manufacturing centers, accounting for one-third of China's total exports.
