The global supply of iron ore was under pressure in the first quarter, of 2022 due to more heavy rainfall in Brazil and the Russia-Ukraine war.
Besides, because of China’s production reduction in winter as well as the reoccurrence of the Covid-19, the country's demand fell, and the global production of iron ore decreased in the first quarter.
In the first quarter, Australia exported the most iron ore, a total of 201.6 million tons. China was the main country that most consumed iron ore from Australia, with over 165 million tons.
In terms of iron ore manufacturers, Rio Tinto produced 71.7 million tons in the first quarter, decreasing by 6% quarter on quarter. Australian BHP sold iron ore with 67.1 million tons, a quarter-on-quarter decrease of 8%.
Apart from Australia, Brazil and South Africa ranked second and third which exported iron ore with a total of 73.24 million tons and 16.51 million tons during the period, respectively.
