Worldsteel: Turkey's crude steel output falls in Jan-Apr on higher energy costs & weaker demand
According to statistics released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel), Turkey's crude steel output totaled 3.4 million tons in April this year, rising by 1.6% compared to the same month a year ago.
In the first four months of this year, Turkey’s crude steel output amounted to 12.8 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 3.2%. The drop in crude output was due to rising energy costs, maintenance work at some major steel mills in Turkey, and weaker demand in winter, which affected the first-quarter output.
However, the investments in new steel mills in Turkey announced in 2021 could make Turkish steel production far beyond 40 million tons in 2023.
