Mechel, a leading specialty steels and alloys producer in Russia, reported that its steel output totaled around 1.9 million tons in the first half of this year, hiking by 7% compared to the same period a year ago.

During the period, the output of pig iron was up by 6% to 1.7 million tons, and that of coal hiked by 7% to nearly 6 million tons, both year on year.

In terms of sales, the volume of coke was down by 16% to 1.2 million tons, and that of coking coal concentrate dropped by 12% to 2.1 million tons, both on a year-on-year basis.
