The Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission (BTTC) believed that the government's high tariff protection measures on steel billets are harming local practitioners especially when local steel prices are high.
Due to the relatively high price of steel in Bangladesh, consumers will still be negatively affected even though the price of imports continues to decline.
At present, the amount of imported steel products in Bangladesh is very small, but due to the protection of high tariffs in the country, the cost of manufacturers increases and the efficiency decreases.
BTTC required the government to closely monitor the trend of global steel prices in order to adjust domestic steel prices in a timely manner. At the same time, it is suggested that steel mills can inform relevant government units in advance before updating the announced price.
