India’s Tata Steel announced that its Jamshedpur plant obtained the first Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) license for the production of Structural Weather Resistant Steel (Corten Steel).

This special grade steel is applied to shipping containers and other heavy-duty weather-proof applications, including rail wagon side panels, rice mill containers, building construction, street furniture, upmarket works of art, signs, chimineas, and fire bowls.

The global weathering steel market size was around US$990 million in 2018 and was expected to increase at a CAGR of 5.6% until 2025.
