According to data from the Instituto Aço Brasil (IABr), import penetration of Brazilian steel was 18.2% in November, up by 3.9% from a year earlier, with imports from China showing the most significant growth. Imports from Europe and Latin America declined.
As for Brazil's domestic steel market, domestic sales in November remained 2.1% lower than a year ago at 1.61 million tons. Due to the European Union's October introduction of import monitoring under its carbon border adjustment mechanism, exports to the European Union fell sharply in November, an annual decrease of 52.3% to about 79,000 tons. Brazil's apparent steel consumption in November was 1.96 million tons, up by 2.5% from a year ago. Domestic sales of steel products fell by 5% year on year to 18 million tons in the first eleven months.
