PJSC ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih, a subsidiary of global steelmaker ArcelorMittal, significantly increased its production of major products in May 2024 despite ongoing attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and related power supply restrictions. Compared to the previous month, steel production in May increased by 28%, pig iron by 40%, coke by 44%, and rolled products by 27%. However, iron ore concentrate output decreased by 15% month-on-month due to power supply restrictions.

The production boost is attributed to the launch of blast furnace No. 6 and coke oven batteries No. 3-4 in April. Despite these gains, the company faces significant operational challenges due to ongoing energy infrastructure attacks.

In 2024, ArcelorMittal aims to increase capacity utilization from 25% to 50%, with plans to fully utilize its mining division and operate two blast furnaces. Despite a challenging 2023, the company produced 1 million tons of steel and contributed UAH 4.1 billion in taxes to Ukraine while maintaining operations and supporting the economy during the war.
