ArcelorMittal reported crude steel production of 14.3 million tons in the second quarter of 2026, up from 13.3 million tons in the first quarter, but slightly below 14.4 million tons recorded in the same period last year.
The company said that the implementation of the European Union's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and the revised steel import safeguard measures are expected to support higher domestic capacity utilization and help restore profitability for European steelmakers. As a result, the company sees improving prospects for its European operations.
ArcelorMittal expects its third-quarter European steel shipments to remain stable or increase slightly compared with the second quarter, a performance that would be stronger than the typical seasonal trend.
