Vale, the Brazilian iron ore miner giant, has signed an MoU with Japan's Nippon Steel to develop decarbonization in the production of steel.
The two companies will jointly study metallic solutions such as direct reduced iron and pig iron produced by Vale subsidiary Tecnored.
In early April, Vale announced that it was breaking ground on its commercial plant to make green pig iron, aiming to reduce carbon emissions by 100%.
Vale is also developing a green pig iron demonstration plant in Pindamonhangaba, with an annual capacity of 750,000 tons.
In order to move forward on decarbonization, Vale has finished the sale of all coal assets.
